Removed from Carter's folder labelled 'Sotheby's Miscellaneous papers'. Included are mostly internal letters, clippings, and memoranda. These include a typescript of 5 pages captioned 'History of Sotheby's' (undated); a report on Sotheby's department of books and manuscripts for 1957-8; and a press release on his retirement Carter set up Sotheby's American office in New York in 1955. He remained with the firm in London from 1956 until his retirement as an Associate Director in 1972.
